Touch of Nature Pen and Notepad Holder

Last Sunday, at my Retiring Sets Stamp Camp, we made this cute little pen and Notepad Holder. There were many stampers who couldn't make the date, so I decided to post the directions as a tutorial. The final product:

Stamps: Touch of Nature, Amazing to Zany

Paper: Elegant Eggplant, Blue Bayou, Naturals Ivory

Ink: Elegant Eggplant, Versamark

Accessories: Black Embossing Powder, Earth Elements Watercolor Crayons, Paper Snips, Aquapainter, Hodgepodge Hardware, Twill Tape, Ticket Corner Punch, Hobby Blade and Mat, Paper Cutter with Scoring Blade, Small Pen, Post-it Note pad

The inside to show the final work!

Step by Step:

1. Cut base cardstock 8 1/2 by 4 1/4. Score at 3 1/2, 4, 4 1/2 and 5. (see picture below)

2. Using a hobby blade, cut the first two scored sections 1 inch from the top and bottom of the base. Your cuts will be perpendicular to the score lines. Leave one score line untouched. This creates the tab to hold the pen later.

3. Stamp cardstock as desired before assembly. I used versamark and the fern stamp both inside and out.

4. Create embellishments for the front. I stamped in Versamark and embossed in black powder. To color my images, I used watercolor crayons and an aquapainter. I cut out the butterfly with the paper snips. I used the ticket corner bunch on my blue bayou matte, then adhered all layers together. I added the words in the Hodgepodge Hardware.

5. Next, fold the pen holder flap up like this:

6. Use sticky strip on the inside where the flap touches the base (on the 1 inch from the bottom and top area) to adhere the holder in place.

8. I added the twill tape with Hodgepodge Hardware to close the holder.

9. Add pen and post-it notes and you are done!

By the way, Hodgepodge Hardware is 25 % off this month! I've had this box almost 3 years, used it frequently for events, and still have some left. It really is a great deal!
